Barn Supervisor - Night Shift

Job Summary—Barn Supervisor—Night shift

The barn supervisor-night shift will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of the horses throughout the night.  This person will be expected to handle and care for horses, clean stalls, perform light janitorial duties, and basic barn chores.  The barn supervisor must also assist in planning, organizing and implementing any and all boarder service requests during the night.  This key person will be responsible for setting up the Horse Center for success each day as well as providing security throughout the night.

Schedule:  Monday—Thursday  9:00pm—5:00am

Barn Operations

  • Supervise the horses and barn throughout the 3rd shift—night watch. 

  • Attend and participate in GSI training modules and when appropriate, DM meetings.

  • Complete the weekly janitorial chore lists, turn out lists, observe grain changes, and stall changes.

  • Work specifically within the feed and replacement budget, monitoring supply levels and reporting barn needs to management. Work with all managers to meet the budget’s bottom line.

  • Ensure barn safety by communicating safety issues verbally and in writing to all managers.

  • Maintain general cleanliness and appearance of the barn, offices, and tack rooms (including mucking stalls)          

  • Work with management to maintain a system for boarder services.

  • Work with the management to fulfill short and mid-term goals of the barn’s greening efforts.

  • Report all serious accidents (ambulance is called, hospital or emergency room admissions, or cases where management suggests professional medical assistance), secure a complete accident form (name of horse, specific details of accident and injury, etc.) and current liability waiver on the injured person. Notify general manager (by phone), and other assistant managers (in writing/email), insurance company or SRS, DM, and Steve LeBel.   Give all relative documentation to the general manager and when possible, have the manager call insurance company or SRS, DM and Steve LeBel.

  • Fulfill any and all directives deemed necessary by management regarding the barn and horse care, and all other aspects of the Horse Center’s operations (including, but not limited to, assisting in any horse care crisis, horse turn out, changes or problems due to inclement weather, barn and grounds cleaning and beautification.)

 Equine Operations

  • Monitor feed and supply levels and report barn needs to management.

  • Consult with management and instructors on general wellbeing of the school horses.

  • Administer medications orally and intramuscularly as directed by management.

  • Fulfill boarder services (including, but limited to, second picking of stalls, mucking stalls, lunging, hand walking, body clipping, and grooming)

Customer Service

  • Provide the best possible customer service to RCPHC clients.

  • Work with program and office personnel to ensure accurate and up- to-date information is given to all RCPHC clients.

  • Address the needs of the boarders concerning health and wellbeing of boarders’ horses (including but not limited to: turnout, changes in diet, brief lameness exams/dressing wounds and injuries, assisting during health and dentistry programs, meeting with boarders and unit manager when needed etc).

  • Assist park visitors during “walk-throughs” (groups of approximately 5 or more) to ensure safety and knowledge of horses. 


  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required; Equine science degree or related field preferred.

  • At least 1 year of experience working in the equine industry

  • Comfortable around horses

  • Works well independently

  • Able to interact and communicate well with customers and barn manager—both oral and written
