Universal Access Instructor for waterfront activities

Are you looking for a Summer opportunity? Do you have experience in assistive instruction?

JOB SUMMARY

Teach beginner kayaking and assist to provide assistance where needed both on and off the water and utilize special equipment to make kayaking more accessible for all. Sessions include specialized equipment, a life jacket, a boat with a paddle and instruction both on and off the water.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Teach beginning Kayaking for our Universal Access programs

  • Assist customers

  • Leading/teaching small groups of adults and children

  • Ensuring safety and supervision of on the water activities

  • Manage the registrations and paperwork of designated programming

  • Other duties as required

 

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

  • Customer service skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of kayaking

  • Previous experience teaching assisted kayaking

  • 1 year teaching experience with kayaking preferred

  • Basic proficiency in speaking Spanish, Portuguese (and/or Hindi) preferred

  • You must know how to swim

 

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • American Canoe Association Level 1 (minimum) Certifications

  • Kayak

  • Driver’s License

  • Red Cross CPR , First Aid

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The work required is moderately physically demanding and requires a medium level of physical fitness. You will be required to do the following:

  • Lifting > 20Lbs. 30%

  • Twisting 10%

  • Kneeling 10%

  • Swimming 5%

  • Squatting 10%
